American companies work together to create a smart homes

Apple, Amazon and Google announced that they plan to develop common standard technology for household products

The initiative called Project Connected Home over IP announced by its creators: Apple, Amazon and Google, will drive a common standard technology for home producers so that the devices function as virtual assistants, among which Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant

According to a statement, the innovative project “aims to improve the consumer experience when trying to use smart home products that are not compatible with each other” where the new work group says: “We believe that the protocol has the potential to be widely adopted in all domestic systems and assistants.”

The developers intend to expand this initiative to “new universal standards of smart home connectivity” by adapting their approach to products such as refrigerators and light bulbs. In addition, “for the development and implementation of a new unified connectivity protocol” will use open source system.

Engineers Nik Sathe and Grant Erickson of Google Nest reported in the statement that “it simplifies developers work and reduces costs by giving them a standard for building their products. Then, everyone will have the power to choose how they want to control their home, regardless of the smart home technology they choose.”

The news was released weeks before the opening of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where technology companies will exhibit thousands of smart home devices.
