Amazon disagrees with European Commission findings

The US commerce giant expressed not being in favor of what was said in Brussels regarding the alleged use of sensitive information for the benefit of the company

Amazon expressed its “disagreement” with the preliminary conclusions of the European Commission, which on Tuesday accused the US multinational of having used sensitive information from companies that use the sales platform for its own benefit, thus violating EU competition rules.

In this sense, the electronic commerce giant stressed that it will continue to do “everything possible” to guarantee that the community authorities “have the necessary information for an accurate understanding of the facts” and recalled that it represents “less than 1 % of the global retail market” and that in all the countries in which it operates there are “larger retailers.”

“We disagree with the preliminary statements of the European Commission and we will continue to do everything possible to ensure that it has the necessary information to have an accurate understanding of the facts,” said the multinational.

The European Commission formally accused the American multinational Amazon of having used sensitive information from companies that use the sales platform for its own benefit, thus violating EU competition rules.

The community authorities have sent the firm led by Jeff Bezos the objections confirming the suspicions for which they launched an in-depth investigation in July last year. It is a new step in a procedure that could result in a fine if the digital giant does not resolve the Brussels accusations.
