Africa successfully tests Wala mobile platform

The mobile payment system was launched in South Africa but has spread to Zimbabwe and Uganda

The search for more efficient options as alternatives to the traditional banking system have given rise to diverse applications and digital tools in the hands of startups around the world and Africa is no exception. Currently in various countries of the continent, users are testing the crypto mobile payment platform Wala, based on blockchain technology.

Wala app is based on the Ethereum platform for the simplest payments such as recharging the cell phone, which is included in the so-called micropayments, since they do not reach $ 2. The use of digital assets against the official African currency and the fact of not having to pay commissions are the main attractions for customers of this platform that emerged in South Africa but has spread rapidly to Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The low value of the current currency in Africa is another reason why developers have found a niche of opportunities in blockchains. They decided to use “dala” tokens, based on Ethereum, which makes possible daily transactions for 6,300 dala and a reach of 57 thousand wallets.

The commercial sector is offering products and services through the Wala platform. Transactions continue to rise, so they hope to expand to other countries soon, including the United Kingdom, where many African expatriates are located. The application would help reduce transfer times.

In this way, customers can send and receive remittances immediately and trust that they will be able to use them efficiently. Micropayments through the application have become the solution for thousands of subscribers.
