Adobe confirms the end of support for Flash Player in 2020

The company will fulfill what was promised three years ago, when in July 2017 it announced that this would be the last year of support

The American software company Adobe confirmed that later this year it will stop distributing and updating its Flash Player support.

Adobe explained that the reason it is ending Flash Player is because open standards like HTML5, WebGL and WebAssembly “have continually evolved over the years and serve as viable alternatives to Flash content.”

In a statement three years in advance, the company noted that this would take effect on December 31, 2020, thus allowing developers, designers and companies to have enough time to migrate existing Flash content to new open standards.

In addition, Adobe explained that it will continue to issue Flash Player security patches, maintain operating system and browser compatibility, and add features and capabilities as determined by the company until the end of this year.

This means that as of 2021, Flash Player download pages will no longer exist on your website and Flash-based content will no longer be able to run.
