Addiction to technology increased in the last decade

Technological advances are increasingly engaging people making sharing with friends and family in the background by giving way to electronic devices

During the last thirty years there have been great advances in technology. Virtually all aspects of life are related to some automated device or process. This has motivated the study of addictive habits in the world population.

Who does not want to have a smartphone, automate their home or have the most recent updates and tools of the most popular social networks?

Currently, the tendency of children, youth and adults is to spend many hours connected to the Internet doing searches; consulting Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; sending messages by WhatsApp or glued to the video game console. Doctors and psychologists point out that this behavior is comparable to that shown by addicts to drugs.

The risks of prolonged connections to Internet include cardiovascular problems due to staying in the same position for a long time, disconnection from reality and waste of time, rupture or impoverishment of human relationships (with family and friends), absence from work, asocial behavior, sudden mood swings when there is no Internet connection and evasion of responsibilities, among others.

There are extreme cases worldwide of young people and adults who have spent too many hours connected to the network and their physical and mental health has deteriorated to the point that the family has had to bring them to the hospital.

Medical reports indicate that it is not possible to break the link with technology in a radical way, since it is present in the home, the workplace, places of entertainment or medical assistance centers. What can be done is to work on an information and prevention campaign from childhood to progressively reduce the current addiction to innovations. In particular those that deteriorate human communication.
