5G will cover 65% of the world’s population in six years

Technology experts expect an accelerated increase in data consumption in the world until 2025

The increase of users of digital services is a forceful reality. From America to Asia, nations show an increase in smartphone use, data consumption, demand for online services.

Based on this consumption pattern, experts predict that in an average of six years 5G technology will reach 65% of the world’s population. The conclusion derives from a report by the Ericsson technology company, which indicates that this percentage would represent 45% of global mobile data traffic.

Only in the area of smartphones, “users are expected to consume a global average of 24 gigabytes per month by 2025 compared to the current 7.2 GB, as it increases videos and new services become available.”

In the Ericsson Mobility Report, the company estimates that by the end of 2025 “there will be 5,000 million Internet of Things (IoT) connections” thanks to the current opening of operators in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North America towards 5G networks.

The case of South Korea is exceptional, since since its launch last April, 5G technology has had a positive acceptance. For the third quarter of 2019 the number of subscribers to digital services increased to three million. For its part, in China the number of users increased from 10 to 13 million.

Both cases encourage the predictions of the report prepared by Ericsson in virtually every nation for the next six years.
