Volkswagen plans to halt production due to low demand

Two assembly lines based in Wolfsburg will be closed entirely and in others there will be reduced hours

The German automobile group Volkswagen has made the decision to interrupt its production in some assembly lines that had just resumed their work after having been paralyzed by the current health crisis.

The measure taken by the company and reported via the intranet will affect two assembly lines based in Wolfsburg, which will be closed entirely and in other facilities there will be a reduction in working hours.

According to the information provided by the Wtcradio portal, this interruption particularly affects the Golf and Tiguan models of the main brand VW.

As indicated by the head of human resources, Arne Meiswinkel, in a message to the workers of the company, the German automaker, who had resumed production in late April, is currently forced to “continuously adjust production according to of the expected fluctuations of the market.”

For his part, the chairman of the company committee Bernd Osterloh, warned in late April that “customers are not interested in buying cars” and the storage tanks for vehicles produced “are already reaching their limits”. Osterloh also assured that “the arrival of orders is disastrous.”
