IDB Invest will strengthen sustainable banking in Honduras

The Initiative arises in order to improve the social and environmental performance of the country's financial sector

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB Invest) group announced that it will support the Honduran Association of Banking Institutions (Ahiba in Spanish) and its 15 member banks to launch a Sustainable Banking Initiative.

The objective is to improve the social and environmental performance of the Honduran financial sector through the adoption of the best international practices of social and environmental risk management. In addition, the project will identify solutions for resilience to climate change and commercial opportunities associated with sustainable financing in the country.

It is expected that during the process the capacities of the banks will be enhanced to take advantage of the commercial opportunities associated with climate change adaptation.

Among the 15 member banks of Ahiba are: Banco Ficohsa, Banco Atlántida, BAC Honduras, Banco Davivienda, Banco Ficensa, Banco Hondureño del Café, Banco de Honduras, Banco Lafise, Banco de Occidente, Banco del País, Banco Popular, Banco Promerica , Banrural, Banco de los Trabajadores and Banco Azteca Honduras.
