Swiss Central Bank could issue a cryptocurrency

The financial institution will carry out this with the collaboration of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and will have two stages of work

The Swiss Central Bank showed recently its intentions to create a cryptocurrency based on a blockchain, together with the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

In a first stage, the financial institution will carry out different projects which are intended to determine “the integration of the central bank’s digital money into the infrastructure of distributed accounting technology.”

The second part includes an investigation that will be done together with the SIX media platform to explore how digital central bank money could be used in the liquidation of tokenized assets among market participants.

The CEO of this company, Jos Dijsselhof, said that in his role as “operator of the Swiss financial market infrastructure, we welcome the initiative of the SNB and the BIS to conduct further research on innovative financial technologies in Switzerland. We are pleased to contribute to this initiative and, through SIX Digital Exchange, explore the technological possibilities with which the BNS could support token-based financial ecosystems.”

The main idea of the institutions is to be able to create digital versions of the values, which will allow the times of the operations to be shortened.

This availability of digital currencies means a great economic opportunity. Tokenization would reduce risk and create innovative ways to create value in finance.
