Haiti postpones first round of general and legislative elections to December 13
The first round of the presidential and legislative elections in Haiti was originally scheduled for August 30, but has been postponed to December 13. The second round will take place on February 21, 2027
Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced on Monday, July 27, a change to the electoral calendar for the presidential and legislative elections. They were originally scheduled for August 30, but have been postponed to December 13.
The second round was scheduled for February 21, 2027, and the final election results were to be published on March 12.
The CEP clarified that “adherence to the schedule will depend on an acceptable level of security and the availability of the necessary financial resources to organize the elections in this country, which has not held elections for a decade.”
In April, Haitian Prime Minister Didier Fils-Aimé declared that the elections would be held once they had “eliminated the armed gangs.”
