The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) resumed relations with Venezuela last Wednesday, June 24. The new governor to the institution is Calixto José Ortega Sánchez.
Relations between the South American country and the financial institution had been suspended since 2019. From now on, Venezuela will have the support of the IDB; the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, “will be able to access loans or financing from the bank.”
The official IDB statement indicates that “this step is part of the Executive’s policy to normalize its ties with the international financial system and multilateral institutions, in line with the recent resumption of contacts with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.”
