CNE announced resounding victory for the government in municipal elections

Elvis Amoroso, president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), issued the first bulletin with the results of the municipal elections on Sunday night, July 27. The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) achieved a resounding victory. The opposition party, Fuerza Vecinal, won in Chacao and Baruta, while the Ecological Movement for Venezuela won in El Hatillo

During the municipal elections in Venezuela, held this Sunday, July 27, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) achieved a resounding victory in most of the positions, according to the first bulletin issued by the president of the National Electoral Council, Elvis Amoroso.

According to the electoral body, voter turnout was 44 % of active voters (6,273,531), and of the 335 positions up for election in the electoral process, the PSUV won 304, representing 90.74 % of the total.

The CNE announced the reelection of Carmen Meléndez of the PSUV as mayor of the Libertados Municipality of Caracas with 350,955 votes; Gustavo Duque of the Fuerza Vecinal party also won in Chacao with 16,243 votes; in Baruta, Darwin González of the Fuerza Vecinal party won 20,222 votes; Diógenes Lara won in the Sucre municipality (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) with 75,200 votes, and in El Hatillo, Fernando Melena of the Movimiento Ecológico de Venezuela (Ecological Movement of Venezuela) won with 8,832 votes.

The CNE is expected to issue new bulletins this Monday confirming the information on the winners in the country’s various municipalities.
