YouTube to block repetitive content to prioritize creativity

Through a change to YouTube's monetization policy that will take effect on July 15, the company will remove channels with content lacking original value that use AI and automated templates from the Partner Program

YouTube will implement an update to its monetization policy on July 15, which provides for the removal from the Partner Program (YPP) of channels that upload content to the platform that is “repetitive, mass-produced, or lacks clear original value.”

The company will implement this measure as part of an effort “to prioritize creativity, authenticity, and quality of monetized content, amid the growing use of artificial intelligence and automated templates that generate videos in batches without significant transformation.”

In short, YouTube will take action against channels that “publish multiple videos with the same format, structure, or message; use third-party content without adding substantial input; mass-produce videos using automated tools, without human creative intervention,” among other things.

If channels violate these parameters, they will be removed from the Partner Program, resulting in the loss of ad revenue, channel memberships, Super Chat, and other monetization tools.

It is important to clarify that YouTube will send a notification “in advance to the affected creators, who will have the opportunity to appeal or adjust their content.”

The central objective of the update, which will take effect on the 15th of this month, is to reduce the platform’s saturation of duplicate content that adds no value, and to ensure the equitable distribution of economic opportunities to “creators who truly offer original and useful content for the audience.”
