Windows 7 technical support will end in 2020

According to an announcement by Microsoft, as of January 14, 2020, the company will no longer provide technical support to the Windows 7 version, which is used by 35.6% of users

As of January 14, 2020 Microsoft will no longer offer technical support to Windows 7. This version of the operating system is currently installed on their computers by 35.6% of users. The measure seeks to avoid problems with future updates of the system and reduce possible cyber attacks.

Although the most used version is Windows 10, with a population of 52.4%, the rest of the Internet users are still using Windows 7. According to the announcement of Microsoft, based in Redmond, Washington, from the aforementioned date it  will not update the system with security patches.

A similar measure was taken by the technology multinational in 2014, with previous versions of its operating system, such as Windows XP, which in April 2014 stopped receiving support.

With respect to Windows 10 – the current version and that most clients use – Microsoft spokesmen indicated a week ago that they will reserve 7 GB of space in the DD of the computers with this version in order to guarantee the next updates.

The multinational has indicated that companies and government agencies that are willing to pay a high sum for technical support for Windows 7 will continue to receive the service. However, this could mean a decrease in the development of compatible products with this version, until its disappearance from the market.
