Walmart seeks to transmit information using drones and blockchain

The company applies for a new patent to use blockchain technology in package delivery and communications exchange

The American company Walmart continues to innovate in terms of blockchain technology. There are many incursions in this area, from food traceability, to drones that are used for package delivery.

The patent application before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, USPTO, joins all the firm’s efforts to anticipate competition. Walmart comes to process a patent related to drones, to ensure communication between them.

Some sources define such communication as a kind of “air traffic controller“, similar to the control tower of airplanes, but this time of drones.

The project is called Cloning Drones using Blockchain and seeks to enable devices to exchange data such as identification numbers, flight heights, flight speeds, flight routes, battery information or load capacity.

It is worth remembering that it is not the first time that Walmart makes a patent application related to drones and distributed technology. Last year the company requested one that specifically related to the drones used in the delivery of packages for them to send the information to each other.

The patent explains that after a drone travels to a specific place where another is located, they exchange authentication signals using “blockchain keys” and if the first robot successfully recognizes its “co-worker” it passes the package to it.
