US sanctions will not affect Huawei sales

The founder of the company hopes to sell 240-250 million phones by the end of this year

The Chinese technology giant Huawei Technologies expects to sell between 240 and 250 million mobile phones in 2019, which means an increase between 16.5% and 21.3% compared to the units marketed by the Chinese manufacturer last year, as indicated by the founder and CEO of the company, Ren Zhengfei.

Zhengfei said that despite the pressure from the United States, which last May included the company in its blacklist after considering it a threat to national security, this will not be an impediment to reaching the goal.

“This year cell phone deliveries will reach between 240 and 250 million units and it is expected that next year there will be great growth. I think the worst possible scenario is the one we have now around 240 or 250 million,” he said.

On the other hand, the founder of the company explained that the growth of the first six months of the year, prior to the sanctions, was “very fast” and that despite what happened, the inertia remained.

The Chinese manufacturer had sold 185 million devices between January and September, which implies a 26% growth over the same period last year, after selling 118 million units worldwide in the first half.

However, despite the good evolution of the company’s figures, Ren acknowledged the impact derived from US sanctions, which have cut off collaboration between Huawei and its US suppliers, such as Google, which has meant a “business slow down outside of China.”
