Uber, Paypal, Visa and Mastercard will support Facebook’s GlobalCoin

A pool of oustanding brands are supporting the new cryptocurrency Facebook expect to launch officially next June 18

The social networking giant catched more than a dozen partners for the launching of its cryptocurrency GlobalCoin, a stablecoin developed in secret for more than six months. Each of the new partners will invest $10 million in the project.

Stripe, Booking.com and MercadoLibre are also part of the program, although the report does not specify their roles. Facebook had announced that it would launch GlobalCoin last December, even though the social network indicated that it was looking at digital coins from the end of 2017.

The cryptographic coin is expected to be a stablecoin which operates within the messaging infrastructure of WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger. Apparently, the cryptoactive would be used to transfer value directly from Facebook to the seller.

However, the company has kept secret exactly what GlobalCoin will be used for, although some media suggest that Facebook could look to retail merchants; allowing users to buy merchandise under discount using the currency.

GlobalCoin will be officially revealed to the public on 18 June 2019 and Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Uber, Strip, MercadoLibre and Booking.com are supporting the new adoption.
