Twitter test theme tracking function

The social network is working on a way to follow topics of common interest that users have

Twitter is testing a new feature that allows its users to follow topics that are of their interest, as well as following other people’s profiles, so that their tweets appear in their ‘timeline’, and will also test a search engine to find the Conversations in direct messages.

According to The Verge, Twitter reported in a meeting with media on Tuesday in San Francisco (United States) that users will be able to follow themes within the social network that will appear in their ‘timeline’ along with the tweets of people they follow, a feature that is already tested on Android.

Twitter product director, Rob Bishop, said that for now it is only being tested on sports-related topics, but the company has ensured that when this new feature is finally available, sports, celebrities and TV shows can be followed.

The topics to be followed will be selected by the social network, but individual tweets will be chosen by machine learning tools. The Twitter product manager, Kayvon Beykpour, stressed that the company does not intend to create topics for everything that its users are interested in because, as the media has collected, it could be used for bad purposes.

In addition, they showed the possibility of silencing the themes, which can be hidden temporarily.

On the other hand, they also announced the introduction of a new search tool for direct messages that allows the user to find what they want among their conversations.
