The FBI says cryptocurrencies are a problem

The US Federal Bureau, through its director Christopher Wray said that digital assets are a threat to national security

The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Chistopher Wray said that cryptocurrencies are considered “an important problem.”

“For us, cryptocurrencies are already an important problem and we can project quite easily that it will get bigger and bigger. Whether or not that is the subject of some kind of regulation, the answer is more difficult for me,” said Wray.

All this arose after Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney questioned the director regarding whether or not the FBI should make a greater effort to deal with cryptocurrencies.

“I am not in the Banking Committee. I do not understand how cryptocurrency works. I think it is more difficult to carry out their work when we cannot follow the money because the money is hidden from us and I wonder if there should be some kind of effort in our nation to deal with cryptocurrencies”, said the director.

Wray’s statement ended by stating that the FBI team is working on a cryptocurrency surveillance process through the tools available to track money.
