Russia discusses bills on regulation of cryptocurrencies

Russian politicians are doubting the decision to ban or legalize the cryptographic trade in the country. Currently, three bills are ready to be revised

The person in charge of cryptographic regulation in Russia announced that three bills will soon be ready for a second reading. For his part, Alexei Moiseev – the Vice Minister of Finance – said that the cryptocurrency trade could be legalized in the country very soon.

Anatoly Aksakov, head of the Financial Market Committee of the Duma, explained to the media that the projects could be approved before the end of July and will be given priority when the summer session of the Duma begins on July 25.

Moiseev explained that Russian politicians are now facing a binary election: to totally prohibit the trade of digital currencies or to legalize the sale and purchase of tokens. The announcement can give enthusiasts of the Russian cryptographic ecosystem reasons to rejoice, but the agreement is not yet closed.

The Central Bank, which has been skeptical of digital currencies, still has great reservations about formally allowing the use of cryptoactives in the nation. The institution remains concerned that cryptographic currencies can be used to finance crime and terrorist activities.

Aksakov quoted: “Until now, the Central Bank does not want to legalize cryptocurrencies, because they can represent a threat to the financial system.”
