Companies could lose $ 200 billion by cyber hijacking

A global information cyber attack can cost $ 193 billion and affect more than 600,000 companies worldwide

The Cyber Risk Management (CyRiM) project, a public-private initiative based in Singapore that assesses cyber risks, recently conducted a study and published a report with extremely important data.

According to the report, the attack is launched through an infected email that, once opened, is forwarded to all contacts and in 24 hours encrypts the data in 30 million computers worldwide.

The companies, if affected, would be forced to pay a ransom to decrypt their data or to replace their infected devices, which undoubtedly would generate a large amount of expenses.

The report entitled “Attack Bashe: Global infection by contagious malware” shows that an attack of data hijacking on this scale would cause a collective economic damage to a wide range of business sectors, through the reduction of productivity, consumption, cleaning costs, ransom payments and interruption of the supply chain.

Also, the report states that the United States would be the most affected country with $ 89 billion in risk. Europe could lose $ 75 billion and Asia would lose $ 18 billion. The rest of the world could lose $ 8 billion. Without a doubt, the world economy is not prepared for an attack of such magnitude.
