China maintains that removing tariffs is an “important condition”

Foreign Trade Minister Gao Feng requested that such imposition by the United States government should be completely eliminated

The Chinese Government considers “synchronized and proportional elimination of tariffs as part of a first phase of agreement with the United States “an important condition” and noted that both parties are “deeply discussing” this issue.

China has repeatedly stressed that the trade war began with the imposition of tariffs and should also end the elimination of tariffs, Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng said at a press conference.

“This is an important condition for the two parties to reach an agreement,” the Chinese official added, adding that the withdrawal of tariffs is in line with the interests of producers and consumers, with the interests of China and the US, and in line with world interests.

In this regard, the Chinese Ministry spokesman said that in case the parties reach a first-stage agreement, “the scope of the cancellation of tariffs must fully reflect the importance of the same, and both parties must assess its importance.”

In this way, Feng added that China is willing to work together with the US to adequately resolve each party’s main concerns on a basis of equality and mutual respect. “The two sides are discussing this in depth.”
