The Government of China requested the endorsement of the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to impose trade sanctions in the amount of $ 2.4 billion against the United States following a dispute between both countries since 2012.

“The United States has not complied with the recommendations and rulings of the DSB within the reasonable period of time provided in the Sequence Agreement, and no compensation agreement has been reached,” the WTO notes in the meeting note that will keep the Regarding the DSB on October 28.

In response to the continued failure by the United States on cthe recommendations and resolutions of the WTO dispute resolution body, “China requests authorization from the DSB to suspend concessions and related obligations for an annual amount of $ 2.4 billion.”

The case dates back to May 25, 2012, when China requested consultations with the United States on the imposition of countervailing measures by the United States on certain Chinese products, which questioned various aspects of countervailing duty investigations identified by the US authorities.

China also questioned the “rebuttable presumption” allegedly established and applied by the US Department of Commerce, that majority government ownership is sufficient to treat a company as a “public body.”
