Boris Johnson will visit Berlin on Wednesday

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom announced that he will go to the capital of Germany to hold a meeting with Angela Merkel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet this Wednesday in Berlin with the new British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as confirmed by German Government spokesman Steffen Seibert.

Seibert again stressed his regret at the fact that the United Kingdom leaves the European Union through Brexit, “but we must also take note of reality.” In this regard, the spokesperson said: “The government has always said that a Brexit with an agreement was better than an exit without an agreement. No one can be interested in that option.”

For his part, Johnson has shown from the beginning his willingness to leave the EU without agreement if he fails to improve the Withdrawal Agreement negotiated by his predecessor, Theresa May. Boris Johnson wants to get the UK out of the EU on October 31st “whatever happens”.

A spokeswoman for the British Government, who had already informed the Prime Minister’s visit to Berlin, also announced that Johnson will meet Thursday with French President Emmanuel Macron.

On his first trip abroad as a leader, Johnson will meet with his European counterparts before the G7 summit to be held from August 24th to 26th in Biarritz, France.

European leaders are pressuring Johnson to prevent an exit without agreement. The opposition leader, Jeremy Corbyn, has promised to overthrow the Johnson government in early September to delay Brexit.
