Boeing losses big amounts due to accident in Ethiopia

The American aircraft manufacturer lost 23,600 million euros on the stock market after the recent incident where 157 people died on board a 737 MAX

The US company Boeing, the manufacturer of the controversial models 737 MAX involved in fatal accidents, losses 23,600 million euros in the stock market.

The chain reaction of airlines that had placed orders for up to 20 aircraft of this model has been to cancel such requests. In addition, countries from all continents have closed their airspace to these units, which have had to return to United States airports.

Two accidents in a period of five months, with the death of 189 people in Indonesia last October, and 157 on Sunday in Ethiopia, are the reason for rejecting the model on commercial flights.

Dozens of companies and civil aviation administrations have adopted the measure in Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Oman and Mongolia had vetoed them. Also included are China, Indonesia, India, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and New Zealand.

The president of the United States ruled on the situation through his Twitter account, focusing on technological advances and the challenges they represent. “Airplanes are becoming too complex to fly, pilots are no longer needed, but MIT computer scientists. I see it all the time in many products, always looking to go an unnecessary step further, when often the oldest and simplest is much better,” Trump said.

On the losses of the company, it is important to point out that this Monday the fall was estimated at 5.33% and for Wednesday it was at 6.15%, to reach losses above 23.600 million euros. The situation can be aggravated because Boeing has a total of orders for 5,000 models of the MAX line, which are around 440,000 million euros.
